06:36 pm - Its like the Ripcord
You know that ride at Cedar Point? The Ripcord? Well, life is like that right now.

The slow progression up:
1) I had an awesome observation at work
2) Boss gave me the best evaluation
3) Joe is looking at his options
4) Aunt Karen will be okay
5) I had a wonderful turkey dinner (early)

The Rush down:
1) Issues with students (problems outside of school)
2) Too much to do, and not enough time
3) Missing appointments because I'm too busy to think
4) Curriculum meeting for math ALL day at central office
5) Joe is leaving for deer camp. I wont see him till Tuesday.

There it is.

09:04 pm
It's been almost a year since my last update. There is no point in trying to fill in every little detail of the past year, although there have been some major life changes. To quickly update the rest of the world:

1. Joe and I got our first home. We love it.
2. I got a teaching job. I love it.
3. Joe and I are getting old and have had some health concerns, but we are doing much better now! Hahaa, I know, it sounds like we are 50!

I guess these are the reasons that I have not been updating. I have been so overwhelmed with life that I hardly have a second to myself.

Right now things are finally starting to settle down. Autumn is here and there is the chill in the air. Its the chill that reminds people that winter is near. Unfortunately, Joe and I have been told that we do not get trick or treaters. The road that we live on is far too busy. I was so hoping that we would, but what can ya do?!

In other news, I am very excited about work this week. We do not have kids tomorrow, which means it is the first day since school started that I will be able to get some work done. Tuesday and Wednesday I teach. Thursday I have a conference in Grand Rapids and Halloween we have off. I also have been getting massages. MESSA insurance is great!

Who knows when I will update again. Until then....goodbye.

10:33 am - I suppose I should update....
A list of recent and upcoming events:

1. My student teaching experience was nothing less than amazing. What a wonderful school. I was placed in a kindergarten/1st grade multi-age classroom with a great mentor. After three student teaching experiences, I can now say that I am more than ready to have my own classroom.

2. In the beginning of the month I was finally able to graduate! My official degree is a bachelor of science in psychology and special education, a minor in elementary education with an empasis on emotional impairments. Starting in Jan. I will be working on my Masters in Learning Disabilties. I will be subbing from now until the end of the school year as all of my classes are at night. The job search will start in Feb!

3. Christmas is going to be very special this year. I have family coming from all over the world to celebrate the holidays and Nana's 80th birthday. I will see my cousin from France who I havent seen since I was 8 years old. People will be coming from Washington, Texas, pretty much everywhere. I am really looking forward to it!

4. Joe is doing so great at his job. I am so proud of him. Last month he placed 1st in salels out of 75 loan officers at his company. What an accomplishment! We had a beautiful dinner at the BOB with his company last night. He is so blessed to have such a great place to work!

Little details include:
1. I got my hair chopped off.
2. Borris is better with the Christmas tree this year.
3. My niece and nephew are doing great.
4. I got to see pregnant Katie....she just glows!
5. I am going down to Kzoo today to be Santa's helper with mom!

08:13 am - Change
Things are going pretty well right now. The summer is coming to a close for me and I'm actually excited about it. I'm ready to get back into a classroom again.....not so excited about class again though.

Since writing in here last time, much has changed. We now have a roommate. Andrew is living with us for a while because he just recently got a job working with Joe at Arbor Mortgage. He just started on Monday and seems to really enjoy it so far. It is different living with someone, but I must say, so far its not bad.

Next week Friday I will be going in to possibly order contacts. No more glasses for Jenn. At the age of 24, one should not be getting wrinkles from squinting out in the sun. My family is helping me out as an early birthday present for me.

In other news, Jeff has a medical issue that he is getting tested for. He went into the doctor telling them that his heart and lungs felt heavy. They did an MRI and they said that there is definitely something wrong. He has a bunch of tests coming up in the weeks to come. We have no answers yet, we just have to wait. I think that is the hardest part.

My dad is being forced to leave his job. They are opening up a new branch on Westnedge and closing my dad's branch. My dad, being the only manager that branch has ever had, will have worked there for over 20 years. This my friends, is how they repay him. NOW he will be working at the main branch but demoted to a loan officer. Eventhough he will still have a job, it is a huge blow to his pride. His last day as a manager at the branch is on Friday. We'll see what happens.

Joe and I have spent a lot of weekends down in Mattawan this summer. We have been helping my parents who have decided to completely upgrade everything in the house and outside. This summer alone they have paved their driveway, re-landscaped their front and backyard. They took out the railroad things and are in the process of putting up a retaining wall. They redid the tiles in the kitchen and downstairs, put a flag pole up in the yard, re-did the living room and Jeff's room and they are still going. Its been exhausting really.

Thanks for reading the update! I will post again soon!

12:35 pm - Finally an update!
Things have finally calmed down enough so that I can update everyone. This semester was full of excitement, frustration, laughter, and tears. I welcomed the experience teaching high schoolers with open arms and lets just say that I was also thankful that the experience was over. I enjoyed my time but know that it is not the right fit for me. I am looking forward to the coming semester where I will be working with kindergartners in a diverse setting. My only apprehension comes with making the jump from 18 year old students to 5 year old students.

Hopefully this summer will make the transition go smoother. I will be returning to work at the YMCA. However, I will be working at the Forest Hills Y and not the Caledonia Y. I will be working with two guys, which I am pretty excited about. They are easier to work with in my opinion, and I think it will be beneficial for the kids as well. I will also be taking care of a 10 year old autistic child a few days a week. I am looking forward to that experience!

Borris (the kitty) is doing well. Still no symptoms from his heart condition. I guess I am just thankful to have him around. There is something to say about having a pet to come home to every day. It makes life a little more enjoyable.

Joe is doing really great at work. He will be starting to work on his own this week, and I know he will succeed. Being a loan officer is his dream job and to him, there are no limits to how far he can go with it.

I just found out last week that my sister-in-law will be having a baby girl. I cannot wait. She is due in October and although there may be some heart complications, I will love her as much as I know how. Alex will be a great big brother to her. I am hoping to take a trip out to Ohio later this month to visit.

Other than that, I am just planning on enjoying the beautiful weather this summer, and for once, relaxing. I am hoping to visit dear friends and take a few camping trips.

I hope to update more often this summer.
Until next time.....

10:48 am - Here I am!!
Okay, its been a while. I agree. Today has been the first time that I have actually been able to sit down at the computer without it being homework related. I just got finished this week with my finals. I know FINALS?? Yes...it is true! This semester is broken down into two 10 week semesters which means I had to pay for 21 credits this semester. I think I ended up with A's in all of my classes, so thats pretty exciting. On Monday starts the real fun....I am at the high school every day all day long, except on Weds when I have my capstone class. It has been interesting so far. Yesterday I got called the B-word because I was actually making the students work....WHAT A CONCEPT!!! Anyway, we'll see how it goes!

I started working out and watching what I eat. I was starting to feel pretty blah. It is definitely hard work and the payoff comes very slow, but I can already feel a difference. I have lost 7-8 pounds so far and dont really mind eating really really healthy. Of course I miss the occassional snickers bar or cookies...I'm only human. I think it is okay to treat yourself once in a while, just not all the time. My meals consist of low cholesterol, low calorie, and low portion chicken, fish, turkey, and tons of veggies! Stir fry happens a lot around the house here! I have been working out with a personal trainer. He has really been pushing me but I have learned a lot. I only have one more session with him so that will be sad. Today I went to the gym to work out and when I was in the bathroom blowing my nose, my water dropped in the toilet....yay fishing in the gym!!! It was pretty gross, to say the least!

Joe is LOVING his job. I am so happy for him. Things seem to be going very well, and his boss is very impressed. This is such a good job for him because he is so honest and so willing to help people, that I'm sure he will have a lot of business. He is traveling to Muskegon tomorrow...wee haa.

Anyway, my hand is starting to cramp. I'm sure most of you lack interest in what I wrote anyway. I just thought I would let you know that I am still alive!

11:12 am - Since October?
I cant believe the last time I posted was in October. Things have been sooo crazy lately I dont even have time to think. Things, however, have been going faily well. School is school, but it is really nice being able to be in the classroom and use what I have learned. I only have 10 days left until my first placement is over. Even though I love the kids, it will be nice for to change settings and be able to be in control (somewhat) of what I teach. I found out that my next placement is at Caledonia High School with the EI room. I am nervous about high school because I dont have any experience, but am looking forward to the challenge.

Joe and I had thanksgiving at our place for the first time. We had my family over..including Nana. Everything went GREAT! Even though it was a lot of work, the food was delicious and it was nice to feel all grown up and hosting a holiday at our place.

I put up my Christmas stuff yesterday. I know it was super early to be doing that but I was afraid that with the end of the semester coming up and everything that I wouldnt have time to do it. I'm not quite in the Christmas mood yet. I was also excited because my parents bought Joe and I a new tree. Our old one was one that my grandparents had used so it was pretty old and nasty. My parents bought us one of those prelit trees....they paid quite a bit for it but its beautiful!

I went out shopping on black friday for the first time. It wasnt bad at all....and I was shopping on 28th street. The longest line I had to stand in took MAYBE 3 minutes. The traffic wasnt bad either. I was impressed with the sales in the mall, and not so impressed with the sales at Target. Its a learning experience I guess.

Today I have to finish cleaning out our old apartment. I just have to vacuum out two more rooms and then we will be completely out of there. Thank goodness. Our new place is soooo nice. Borris loves looking out all of the windows at the woods. We have seen tons of squirrels, turkey, deer, geese, ducks, etc. So much fun.

Anyway, now my fingies are starting to hurt from typing. I just thought I would let everyone who reads these know that I am still alive, just BUSY!

09:58 am - I am still here.
WOW! Talk about a hectic start to the semester! Today is the first day in a LONG time that I actually have a chance to do laundry and dishes. Yes, I know, its a miracle.

Things are going really great at the school. I have taught a few lessons and it feels so nice to actually be in front of the students. School is nice. Learning about real world techniques instead of learning this history of psychology is fantastic. I actually enjoy going to class. Who would have thought?

In other news, I GOT A NEW CAR!!!! Its a 2003 Buick Century. Really cute car. Its pretty much like the granny car I was driving before but now its MUCH smaller. Joe has the LeSabre now (his old car is in the dump now). I'm super excited. Now the only BIG thing on the list is to buy a home....we are in the process of looking.

YAY. Thats all.

03:12 pm
I just got back from a weekend of visiting my nephew, Alex. We celebrated his 1st birthday a few weeks early because we wont be able to get together next month for his real birthday. It was wonderful seeing everyone. Alex is just about walking...hold on to our fingers. I will post some pictures on facebook later on. I met Dan's sister and her husband. They announced over the weekend that they are expecting, her due date is April 4th. Mom's birtday.

Borris is doing well. Not really showing any signs of progression quite yet. Not sure what to look for though. Borris spent most of the weekend at my parents house watching the birds, squirrels, and his friend the chipmunk. He is sitting in the chair next to me sleeping right now.

Today I am relaxing as much as possible. This week is my last week off before the madness of school and teacher assisting starts. I slept in till 10:30...I dont even remember the last time I did that.

08:38 pm - Not the news I expected...
I know this is silly and usually I wouldnt post something like this but I need some prayers (or positive thoughts).

Today I went to the vet with Borris to get him his yearly shots. While we were there the vet gave us the unexpected news that he has a significant heart murmur. We arent quite sure HOW severe or WHAT/IF ANY treatments are available for him yet. On Monday we have to schedule an appointment to go over to Lansing to the MSU veternary clinic for an ultrasound and other testings.

By the sound of it....its not good.
He's just a baby still, its not fair.

Can you keep him in your thoughts?
